Descendant of the Nephilim is the first comic book series that I wrote and illustrated, not that long ago, in my early twenties this series is very much a teenager’s story though; the themes and ideas behind the series, I think started to develop in my head, way back in high school.

Descendant of the Nephilim or DOTN is about a boy who has run away from home or should I say, has been banished from his father’s evil kingdom of supernatural beings.
Will uses his powers to hide in plain sight, performing mistake filled magic acts at a run down theatre, what he really wants to do though is to find a cure to his inhuman abilities and become his own man, the dark powers, of course, are trying to pull Will back into the supernatural world though.

There are some classic themes that run through this series of what we inherit from our parents, our predetermined destiny and how we can break it, but these themes are explored in unusual ways that are inherent to Will’s supernatural powers.
It’s also about the objects and people in our lives, what value they have for us and how death affects our relationship with them.
The art of this series reflects the story; it is mutated, fancifully deformed and intricate.
One central idea behind the art of DOTN was to do away with comic book panels or frames, if you like, to explore the concept of images within images, much like the theme in DOTN of Souls carried within the bodies of others.

How it’s made.
This series has been running for a while now, released in single issues, I have toured up and down Australia’s East Coast, selling comics at various big and small conventions and markets, finding fans of the series and sharing this weird story with them.

Originally, I printed a batch of these single issues myself, on a colour photocopier and when they sold out at my first couple of conventions, I contacted a printer.
Doug at Comic Books on Demand and he has been doing a wonderful job with fast turnaround and exceptional quality prints, so I figured we’d do no better than printing the collected edition with him and his crew.

A lot of the few fans that the series has, expressed interest in and encouraged me to release this collected edition of DOTN, so I ended up really wanting to have a collected edition of the series myself, but obviously also for the fans and all to enjoy as well, it of course this led me to Kickstarter.

Why Kickstarter?
It’s an international pitching platform, where basically if enough people want the book, it will come into being, it also acts as a good reason to promote the series and share the dark and nightmarish story within.
The bonus is, it will not be a long delivery as the entire story and artwork has been completed in the release of the single issues and the consolidation of pages into one single awesome collected edition has already begun.

Descendant of the Nephilim, was the first series that I created, it is a dark fantasy series that follows a teenager with supernatural power, who is trying to escape his father’s evil empire.
The Third Hand is the second series that I created, a bold adventure, seeing through the eyes of traumatized time travelers, who are incapable of controlling their powers.

Feral Horizon was the third series that I created, which was actually a co-creation with my beautiful and talented girlfriend, Jessica Gibson, I handled the writing duties and Jessica, the art, it’s an epic animal adventure that follows a pet dog, who is searching for her owner through an apocalyptic earth.

These comic book series are all in vivid full colour with at least 22 pages and a couple of issues released, We have received some much appreciated praise for our books from fans and we’ve been very humbled by their enthusiastic and patient support previously, Although not from critical reviewers, we have received generally good reviews and acclaim for all of our Ardent Comics series, being our first few series though, there is obviously some learning and some development that took place.

Check out the Comic Series page on our website to get a more in-depth look at the series, characters and ideas behind Ardent Comics.
